Man Arrested After He Sold P3-M worth of Properties of OFW for Online Sabong

Police authorities arrested a man who allegedly sold the properties of an Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) and lose it in online sabong.

Josel Sunpongco, the culprit, is in grief after he lost millions of pesos and OFW properties for betting on online cockfighting. According to the ‘24 Oras’ report, Sunpongco was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Anti-Fraud Division for gambling with an OFW’s money.

Sunpongco is said to have been entrusted with an OFW’s money and other assets to invest. However, when the OFW took the suspect’s hard copy of the documents, he was unable to provide them with anything.

Sunpongco apologized for his errors and promised not to repeat them. “Sorry po sa lahat ng ginawa ko, hindi ko na po uulitin. Hindi na po ako manloloko ng ibang tao.”

Sunpongco acknowledged to spending the money on online cockfighting, where he allegedly spent more than P3.5 million. He claims that his bets range from P5,000 to P10,000 per battle.

He claims he is no longer keeping track of the money, the fact that he spent too much money on online cockfighting. Even the old man’s money meant for property purchase was also gone, based on the report.

The defendant has been charged with falsification of official records and estafa, according to NBI Anti-Fraud Division Chief Palmer Mallari. The online “sabongero” is now in the custody of the police.
