Olympian Yordenis Ugas Overpowered Pinoy Boxing Legend Manny Pacquiao

YORDENIS UGAS – Cuban boxer Yordenis Ugas defended his World Boxing Association (WBA) super welterweight title against Manny Pacquiao.

This is the day boxing fans had circled on their calendar as Pambansang Kamao Manny Pacquiao was set to challenge Cuban boxer Yordenis Ugas for the welterweight title. The Filipino boxer was supposed to fight American boxer Errol Spence Jr for Spence’s IBF and WBC welterweight titles but the latter was forced to cancel their fight due to a torn retina in his left eye.

The 42-year-old boxer immediately reacted to the news saying he is praying for his fast and full recovery. Pacquiao’s new opponent is considered one of the best welterweights in the game. Ugas won bronze for Cuba in the 2008 Olympic games.

Yordenis Ugas was supposed to fight Argentine boxer Fabian Maidana in the co-feature of the Spence-Pacquiao bout until Fabian decided to pull out from the fight due to an injury. The 35-year-old Cuban boxer has won three consecutive fights since losing to American boxer Shawn Porter in 2019.

In a previous article, Ugas said he’s ready for a ‘12 hard rounds’ with Manny Pacquiao. He did not promise a knockout against the Filipino boxer but he’s prepared for a fearless bout that will go to the judge’s scorecards. He said, “I have come to prepare for 12 hard rounds.

In a virtual presser on Wednesday, the fighting senator said he wanted to please his fans and not waste the hard training he has put in. He also said that he is not overlooking Ugas and he’s just excited that he finally get back to the ring after 2 years. Their fight takes place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Yordenis Ugas successfully defended his WBA super welterweight title against Manny Pacquiao. He won by unanimous decision  115-113, 116-112, 116-112.
