90% Of COVID Related Fatalities In Vicente Sotto Hospital Are Unvaccinated – Official
VICENTE SOTTO HOSPITAL – According to Doctor Helen Madamba, Vicente Sotto Hospital’s chief COVID-19 health facility implementer, 90% of COVID fatalities are unvaccinated patients.
Amid the coronavirus pandemic, vaccines bring hope to the Philippines as it finally has a way to achieve herd immunity. However, many are still hesitant to get vaccinated due to misinformation and fears regarding the vaccines.
Meanwhile, as the number of COVID-19 cases in the country begin to sure yet again, doctors are emphasizing the importance of vaccinations. According to an article from ABS-CBN, Madamba said:
“More than 90 percent of our deaths are not vaccinated
Binabantayan namin ang number of deaths namin kasi baka maging problema ang pag-release ng cadaver to funeral parlors atsaka paglibing sa cemeteries.“
Vicente Sotto is the largest COVID-19 referral hospital in Visayas, because of this, they have become the end-referral center when it came to COVID-19 patients in Cebu. She stated that when patients are referred to the hospital, it would sometimes be too late.
Luckily, the hospital has an oxygen plant which could refill tanks within two hours. Moreover, the chief said the hospital plans to increase its capacity of COVID-19 beds, Intensive care unit beds, and ward beds.
Currently, no Delta Variant case has been reported from the hospital. However, Madamba says that the rapid spread of the virus at the moment could possibly be due to the new variant.
