Cebu Governor Garcia Makes Changes on Quarantine Measures in Some Cities, Towns

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia put three (3) cities and 8 towns under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) for 15 days.

The whole Philippines remains under community quarantine measures for over a year now and stricter measures were recently re-imposed in several areas amid the presence of the Delta variant in the country.

The said variant of concern was first detected in India. It led to the loss of many lives after India’s healthcare system collapsed due to the massive surge in the COVID-19 cases. The said variant was also detected in Indonesia, the United States, and Malaysia among others.

Following the confirmation of local transmissions of the Delta variant in PH, the whole Metro Manila is currently under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) again. It is under the strictest level of quarantine measure until August 20.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, one of the provinces that records increasing cases of COVID-19 now is Cebu. Its active cases is at 4,408 – its highest so far. The most recent addition was 187 new cases in a day.

According to the report, Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia issued an executive order changing the quarantine measures in some areas in the province. Starting 12:00 a.m. of Wednesday, three (3) cities and 8 towns will be under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ).

The said cities placed by Cebu Governor Garcia under MECQ are Naga, Talisay, and Carcar, The towns of Liloan, Sibonga, Samboan, Cordova, Consolacion, Minglanilla, Argao, and Oslob will also be under MECQ for 15 days.

Reportedly, the E.O. contained the mandate for minimum health standards’ observance and the use of air purifiers and ionizers in every office. The public transportation will remain but air-conditioned public vehicles must have air purifiers as well. The curfew is from 10:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m.
