COVID Cases In PH To Rise Higher As Country Sees 5-digit Daily Cases

COVID Cases In PH To Rise Following Delta Surge

COVID CASES IN PH – According to the Department of Health (DOH), the number of daily COVID-19 infections will continue to rise.

In the past few months, the Philippines has seen a steady increase in the number of daily COVID-19 cases. This came after the detection of the new Delta Variant back in July.

Shortly after, health authorities confirmed local cases of the variant. This led to research groups such as OCTA to warn of a potential surge due to the new variant being more transmissible.

Now, a few weeks later, the Philippines is back to seeing 5-digit caseloads of COVID-19 infections. After nearly four months, the Philippines’ daily COVID-19 cases are back to over 10,000.

According to an article from ABS-CBN, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said:

So nakikita na po natin na sumisipa na ang mga kaso, tumataas na po ang kaso, nararamdaman na po natin ang epekto ng Delta variant sa ating bansa. Amin pong nakikita, based on projections, tataas pa rin po ang mga kasong ito

Furthermore, she emphasized that the recently imposed lockdowns would merely slow down the increase. “Ito pong ginagawa nating paghihigpit… hindi niyan papatigilin. Tuloy pa rin ang pagtaas.”, she warned.

Currently, Manila is placed under its third enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), the strictest quarantine restriction in the country. It was implemented on August 6, 2021, and would run until August 15, 2021.

As per the article, here are the areas with the most number of new infections based on data from the DOH:

  • Cavite – 794
  • Laguna – 609
  • Bulacan – 562
  • Quezon City – 375
  • Cebu City – 314
  • Manila – 309
