Mayor Isko Moreno Gives Update on Metro Manila Cash Aid amid ECQ

Mayor Isko Moreno spoke on the funds from the national government to be given as cash aid to the residents of Metro Manila.

Metro Manila is currently under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) until August 20, 2021. The two-week ECQ came after the Delta variant was detected in the country. There are worries over its high transmissibility rate.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), local transmissions of the Delta variant were recorded in some areas in the country. Experts believe that an action has to be made to prevent the spread of the variant of concern. In India, it caused the collapse of their healthcare system while it was a factor in the surge of the COVID-19 cases in Indonesia and Thailand now.

During the 2-week ECQ in Metro Manila, the vaccination program against COVID-19 will continue. Those individuals who are scheduled to receive their vaccine will be allowed to go out provided that they would present their vaccination card or any proof that will prove their purpose.

Many people will greatly be affected by the ECQ most especially those who earn on a daily basis. The national government assured to extend some help to these individuals. Metro Manila mayors agreed to release it in the form of cash.

However, based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the local governments in Metro Manila has yet to receive the funds for the cash aid of the residents amid the ECQ. Manila Mayor Isko Moreno spoke about it.

According to Mayor Isko Moreno, he and the other Metro Manila mayors still don’t have the cash on hand for the financial aid of the residents. He also added that they have also yet to receive the four (4) million vaccines pledged by the national government.

“Buti pa kayo may press release na kayo na may 4 million doses pero kami ang tangan-tangan namin ay second doses lang,” the Mayor of the capital city said.

Mayor Isko expressed that Manila currently has no vaccine for the 1st dose thus there will be no 1st dose vaccination today. He criticized the national government saying that the situation in 2020 is the same as the situation now and he raised a question on whether or not things will lead to something good under the current admin.
