Update on COVID-19 Cases in Laguna Following New Surge

LAGUNA – Governor Ramil Hernandez said that the COVID-19 cases in the province are on a “critical level” and the provincial hospitals are now full.

Several cities and provinces in the Philippines are experiencing another increase in their COVID-19 cases. Many local government units that await genome sequencing results suspect that the Delta variant has reached their place.

First recorded in India, the Delta variant caught attention with its higher transmissibility rate that infected a lot of people in India. It also caused the collapse of India’s healthcare system to the point that many patients could no longer be accommodated.

In the Philippines, there are already local transmissions of the Delta variant of COVID-19. It prompted the national government to implement stricter quarantine measures in Metro Manila for two (2) weeks.
