Chinese Embassy Lambasts Reuters For "Ugly Photo" Of Gold Medalist

Obviously, winning a gold medal for your country is a high honor. In the same weightlifting sport for the 49Kg division, China’s Zhihui Hou won the gold medal. However, the issue expressed by the Chinese Embassy was Reuters choice for a featured image.

In their official Twitter page, the embassy said:

Among all the photos of the game, Reuters has chose this one, which only shows how ugly they are.

Don’t put politics and ideologies above sports, and call yourself an unbiased media organization. Shameless.

Respect the spirit of the #Olympics.

Afterward, to further expand of their accusation, the embassy uploaded screenshots of Reuters taking “beautiful photos” of other nationalities on the same day.

Maybe it’s because everything good in life comes easier for the white westerners? We said that these biases MSM are ugly. Never the athletes. They’re beautiful, no matter their colors and nationalities“, the embassy added.

However, netizens quickly responded saying that the photo was only ugly in the eyes of the Chinese Embassy. For the majority of netizens, they expressed that they only see an athlete in the midst of bagging an Olympic Gold Medal.

One netizen said that the photo shows her emotions during her victory in the competitive sport. Meanwhile, others stated that it was a powerful photo which captured the efforts, pain, and sheer will of the athlete to win.

Along with this, several Chinese state media have also chosen the photo as their featured images. Here are some of the screenshots from outlets such as China Daily.
