Hidilyn Diaz Mother was Overjoyed After Daughter Bags First Olympics Gold Medal
HIDILYN DIAZ MOTHER – Emelita Diaz, the mother of Hidilyn felt indescribably happy after her daughter bags the first gold medal for the Philippines in Olympics 2021.
Her daughter’s victory at the Tokyo Olympics, she believes, was an answer to her plea. It prayed nonstop, just as it did when it competed in the 2016 Rio Olympics and won a silver medal.
She said the child had not been seen in over a year due to her hectic training schedule in preparation for the upcoming Olympics in Malaysia. Every day, she claims, she leaves a message on her smartphone.
“Sobrang hirap din. More than one year na ang COVID at ‘di pa kami nagkita. Sa video call lang,” she shared.

In an interview with ABS-CBN, Hidilyn’s mother narrated her feelings about her daughter’s victory. “Sobra sobrang kaba. Sobra ring masaya na hindi ko maintindihan yung nararamdaman,” said Nanay Emelita.
All of their hard work and sacrifice paid off with a fantastic result, giving the Philippines its first gold medal since they first competed in the Olympics in 1924. Diaz won gold, defeating China’s world record holder Liao Qiuyun, with Kazakhstan’s Zulfiya Chinshantlo taking third place for bronze.
That is why Nanay Emelita is overjoyed for her daughter Hidilyn’s achievements, not only for herself but also for the country. The Pinay weightlifter previously won a bronze medal at the 2007 Southeast Asian Games in Thailand and finished 10th in the 53-kilogram division at the 2006 Asian Games.
He is expected to collect Php 33 million for his triumph in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Hidilyn also won three gold medals in the 2020 World Weightlifting Championships.
She earned a silver medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Hidilyn’s request for help with her training for the 2020 Olympics has sparked controversy since then.
