Japan Begins “Vaccine Passport” Applications In Bid To Boost Economy/Travel

VACCINE PASSPORT – Japan officially begins applications for the so-called vaccine passports for people fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

According to the Japanese government, Italy, Austria, Turkey, Bulgaria, and Poland have agreed to relax COVID-19 quarantine rules for holders of Japanese certificates. Meanwhile South Korea will accept them as one of the documents required to exempt holders from quarantine requirements.

Additionally, Estonia also agreed to accept the certificates from Japan. But, it doesn’t hold any quarantine even if the individual has been fully inoculated against COVID-19 or not. Moreover, the Japanese government has been in talks with other countries to expand its “vaccine passport” usage.

Still, the certificates will become official records that will be given free of charge by local municipalities. Included in the certificates would be official information such as a person’s name, passport number, and date of vaccination.

Those who seek to obtain certificates must submit papers such as the application form, passport, and immunization tickets in person or via mail.

The application form and certificate are presently only available on paper, but the Japanese government hopes to enable digital application and issuance in the future.
