The statistics are identical to those reported by the SWS in May of this year, when 49 percent of polled families claimed they were poor, 33 percent said they were borderline poor, and 17 percent indicated they were not poor.

According to SWS, 7% of self-rated poor families are “newly poor,” meaning they were not poor one to four years ago, 4.1 percent are “typically poor,” meaning they were not poor five or more years ago, and 36.2 percent are “always poor.”

Based on an article from Inquirer, SWS stated:

Of the estimated 12 million poor families in June 2021, 1.8 million were newly poor, 1 million were usually poor, and 9.1 million were always poor

The number of self-described poor people was largest in the Visayas, where 70% of families stated they were poor, 24% said they were borderline poor, and 7% said they were not poor.

Following the Visayas is Mindanao, where 51% of people say they are poor, 42% say they are on the verge of becoming poor, and 7% say they are not poor.
