Woman Scams P88-M from Victims After Pretending as Lawmaker’s Staff

Police authorities arrested a woman who allegedly scammed P88 million from her victims after pretending as lawmaker’s staff.

Agents from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) nabbed a lady who allegedly pretended to be a member of the congressman’s staff. According to the report, the lady allegedly defrauded over P88 million from victims who mistook her for a member of the legislature’s staff.

Cristine Lagrisola, 40, was arrested and charged with estafa and violation of Batas Pambansa 22, or the anti-bouncing check legislation. According to one of the victims, the suspect offered a 27 percent return on investment in six days.

The suspect said that the investment opportunity would come from her boss’s casino rolling program, claiming to be a lawmaker. Kristine dela Cruz, a special agent, revealed that she claims to be the congressman’s accountant or treasurer.

“Sinasabi niya na siya ‘yong accountant o treasurer na nangongolekta ng pera para sa congressman… Nagpapakilala siya as staff ng isang congressman so ginagamit niya ‘yon sa pamamagitan ng pagpapakita ng calling cards, picture kasama ‘yong congressman,” dela Cruz explained.

(She would claim that she was the accountant or treasurer who collects money for the congressman. She describes herself as a staffer for a congressman, and she tries to verify it with calling cards and a photo of herself with the lawmaker.)

Meanwhile, the anti-narcotic operatives arrested an alleged employee of Pandi Municipal Hall in Bulacan over illegal drugs during a buy-bust operation. Based on the report, the operation resulted in the seizure of 12 heat-sealed plastic sachets containing 20 grams of shabu with a street value of P136,000.00.
