Living Descendants of Leonardo Da Vinci Allegedly Found by the Researchers
The researchers traced the genealogy of the legendary artist Leonardo Da Vinci and allegedly found his fourteen living descendants.
Alessandro Vezzosi, a historian at the Museo Ideale Leonardo Da Vinci in Italy together with Leonardo Da Vinci Heritage Association President Agnese Sabato pursued the study of the Renaissance polymath’s family tree. The study has been published last July 4, 2021, which is the result of the expert’s effort.
The researchers reportedly started the study 700 years ago or in 1331. The study started with Da Vinci’s great, great grandfather named Michele. Vezzosi and Sabato scoured historical documents to trace the living descendants of the Italian polymath.
According to history, Leonardo has no children, but his relatives have 22 half siblings. The two researchers thoroughly searched historical documents to trace the unbroken male line from da Vinci’s father, Ser Piero, and half-brother Domenico.
“This will make available useful elements to scientifically explore the roots of his genius, to find information on his physical prowess and on his possibly precocious aging, on his being left-handed and his health and possible hereditary sicknesses, and to explain certain peculiar sensory perceptions, like his extraordinary visual quality and synesthesia,” the researchers said.
According to the researchers, Da Vinci’s descendants are ranging from 1 year old to 85 years old.
The Italian painter is popularly known for his artworks “The Last Supper” and “The Mona Lisa.” He was born in Abril 15, 1452 and passed away in 1519.
