PCOO Alleged Troll Farm, “Soc Med Specialists” Included In Senate Probe

PCOO Alleged Troll Farm, “Incredible Surge” In Employment To Be Probed

PCOO ALLEGED TROLL FARM – The Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO)’s surge in employment in 2020 will be under investigation in a Senate probe.

Back in 2020, the PCOO, according to Senator Panfilo Lacson, had an “incredible surge” in employment. This caused the agency to spend a whopping P70.6 million for a mass hiring of over 375 contractual personnel.

Because of this, the Commission on Audit (COA) flagged the PCOO’s decision as “unrestricted and massive”. But, PCOO Undersecretary Krish Ablan, clarified that the 375 contract of service personnel were not trolls but “Social Media Specialist”.

Among the senators that questioned PCOO was Senator Risa Hontiveros. According to her, if the troll farms were found to be true, it would be a huge embarrassment. Furthermore, she cited that if proven guilty, it would be strong proof of corruption within the government.

Previously, social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter suspended the accounts of “trolls” and “troll groups”. Most of these accounts, groups, and pages were pro-government and shared fake news and misinformation.

However, according to admin allies such as Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, these groups were simply “advocacy groups”. Moreover, he cited that that the suspension was a clear example of censoring freedom of speech.
