Pope Calls For Free Healthcare Following First Post-surgery Appearance

POPE CALLS FOR FREE HEALTHCARE – Among the services most needed in the world is access to quality healthcare. However, for people without insurance, this could be a costly endeavor.

As such, many opt not to go to hospitals in fears of a ridiculous hospital bill. Realizing this, Pope Francis called for a free universal healthcare in his first post-surgery appearance.

Pope Calls For Free Healthcare After Intestinal Surgery

Recently, the 84-year-old pontiff underwent intestinal surgery where doctors had to remove a part of his colon. A week later, the Pope spoke to a crowd from his 10th floor window in Rome’s Gemelli hospital.

According to an article from Unilad, the Pope said:

I have deeply felt your closeness and the support of your prayers. Thank you from the bottom of my heart,’ he told those in attendance, delighted at keeping his weekly Sunday Angelus appointment, before discussing the need for healthcare for all

Furthermore, he emphasized the need for a good health care system accessible even for the poorest of poor. He cited how Jesus’ disciples anointed people poor in health with oil.

In these days that I have been in hospital, I saw once more how important it is to have a good healthcare system that is accessible to all, as it exists in Italy and in other countries“, the pontiff added.

Moreover, the pope called on to the people to pray for the weak and sick, especially in this day and age where many are in difficult situations. “May no one be left alone“, he said. Along with this, the pope expressed his gratitude to the doctors and medical workers that took care of him during his stay at the hospital.
