US, Canada Records Hottest Heat Wave With 134 Dead

HEAT WAVE – At least 134 people were reported dead due to the hottest heat wave ever recorded in Vancouver, Canada.

Since Friday of last week, scores of people suddenly died in Vancouver. According to police reports, the deaths were likely linked to the hottest heat wave ever recorded in Canada that went up to 49.5 degrees Celsius.

The most affected area was around the towns of Lytton, British Columbia. Based on an article from Manila Bulletin, the town experienced the heat wave for three days in a row.

Furthermore, the heat wave was so intense that it was felt all the way to west side of Canada and the US Pacific Northwest. As per the article, most of the deaths recorded in the past 24 hours were elderly with underlying health issues.

As a response to the deaths, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said:

Although still under investigation, heat is believed to be a contributing factor in the majority of the deaths

Earlier this month, officials from Arizona’s largest county are conducting investigations of 53 suspected heat deaths. If confirmed, the 53 deaths from June 12 to 19 would be added to the 20 suspected heat deaths earlier in the year.

In the United States, heat causes more deaths than any other natural catastrophe combined. Scientists say that the future will likely be more frequent and intense heat waves due to climate change and the worst drought ever.
