Over 150 Motorist in Davao City Blocking Bike Lanes Received Ticket

Traffic authorities apprehended more than 150 motorists for allegedly passing, blocking the bike lanes which is only exclusive for bikers in Davao City.

Since May, 156 motorists have been arrested for blocking and parking in bike lanes in this city. The apprehended motorists face illegal parking charges and a fine of P500, according to the chief of the Davao city transport and traffic management office (CTTMO).

The fine for breaching the city’s bicycle law will increase to P1,000 if the 19th municipal council accepts the updated rules. The CTTMO currently has a 10-man enforcement squad in place to ensure those bike lanes are used properly in the city.

The CTTMO delineated bike lanes on many city streets last year. Wearing protective gear and not crossing designated bike lanes prevent cyclists from cycling on the roadways.

Meanwhile, while the traffic light was red, a traffic marshal and a habal-habal motorist engaged in a fist brawl in the middle of the road in Cebu City. A worried motorist filmed the commotion between a traffic marshal and a habal-habal driver under a bridge in Barangay Lahug on film.

Both were wearing helmets that delivered punches and kicks as motorists watched on. The traffic marshal allegedly charged the driver with passing a red signal.
