Muhlach Family COVID-19 Vaccination Stirs Controversy, DILG Explains

Here’s what DILG said about the Muhlach family simultaneously having their COVID-19 jab.

MUHLACH FAMILY – Aga Muhlach along with his wife and children got their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and DILG has spoken about this.

Most famous stars and celebrities who already received their COVID-19 vaccine are being subjected to critical comments and accusations of using their privileges as popular figures. But to some, like Kris Aquino, who just recently had her first dose, people clearly understood why because she reasonably falls under the A3 category of the priority list. And just recently, what has received various comments is the simultaneous vaccination of Aga Muhlach and Charlene Gonzales along with their two kids.

To which category do they fall under based on the approved list of people and groups to be prioritized? The prioritization is due to the limitation of the vaccine and for the awareness of everyone, below is the complete list of prioritized groups for the vaccine:

  • A1: Frontline workers in health facilities both national and local, private and public, health professionals and non-professionals like students, nursing aides, janitors, barangay health workers, etc.
  • A2: Senior citizens aged 60 years old and above
  • A3: Persons with comorbidities not otherwise included in the preceding categories
  • A4: Frontline personnel in essential sectors, including uniformed personnel and those in working sectors identified by the IATF as essential during ECQ
  • A5: Indigent populations not otherwise included in the preceding categories
  • B1: Teachers, social workers
  • B2: Other government workers
  • B3: Other essential workers
  • B4: Socio-demographic groups at significantly higher risk other than senior citizens and indigent people
  • B5: Overseas Filipino Workers
  • B6: Other remaining workforce
  • C: Rest of the Filipino population not otherwise included in the above groups

With the issue that has risen over the Muhlach family’s simultaneous vaccination, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) disclosed on Friday that they are all registered under the A3 category. They all have medical issues making them qualified to get a COVID-19 vaccine.

Tez Navarro, public information office chief of the city government of Muntinlupa City confirmed that they have comorbidities but did not specify it. The Muhlachs had their first dose last June 1, Tuesday, at the Festival Supermall. The government official furthered that no special treatment was given to them.

Interior Undersecretary and Spokesperson Jonathan Malaya said as per CNN that they all have medical certificates from the Asian Hospital and Medical Center. He said, “Documents regarding their vaccination were also submitted to the DILG. Therefore, the Department sees no violation of DOH or IATF’s regulations in the aforementioned vaccination.”
