The fight against the COVID-19 pandemic continues and the authorities keep on reminding the people to follow the protocols. Everyone must wear a face mask and practice social distancing in public areas. Leisure traveling is still not advised amid the threats of the disease.

In the first quarter of 2021, a spike in the COVID-19 cases in the Philippines was recorded. It urged the government to place the whole Metro Manila back under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ). The said quarantine measure was also implemented in the provinces of Laguna, Bulacan, Cavite, and Rizal.

Currently, Metro Manila and the said nearby provinces are under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) with heightened measures. Most parts of the country are under Modified GCQ (MGCQ).

There are also protocols in going in and out of the country now. Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who arrived in the Philippines must follow the quarantine protocol. They must be under a facility-based quarantine for at least 10 days with a swab test administered on the 7th day since their arrival.

Recently, in Cebu, an OFW died in a quarantine hotel. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the said OFW was identified as Geraldine Dasalya who is living in Luzon.

According to Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac, Dasalyas passed the screening done at the airport and upon entry to the quarantine hotel. Based on the report, OWWA said that the cause of death of the OFW has nothing to do with COVID-19.

The OWWA Administrator expressed that the cause of death of the OFW who died during quarantine in a hotel in Cebu is heart attack. Cacdac expressed that she has an “ischemic heart disease” which result to “acute myocardial infarction”.

The authorities have already contacted the family of Dasalyas. Her remains will be flown back to Luzon and OWWA assured to help the family.
