BANYE-BANYERANG TAMBAN – Due to an overabundance of “tamban,” fisherman were forced to left them to rot on the pier in Bulan, Sorsogon.

Multiple tubs of lawlaw or tamban fish were thrown away in the town of Bulan, Sorsogon, due to an overabundance of the fish. It is because the fishes were never being bought and it is only being distributed to the people.

There is now a canning facility in Bulan that manufactures canned tamba, however it is stated that oversupply is unavoidable, particularly during its season. The abundant capture of tamban may be attributed to the resumption of the fishing season in the Visayan Sea, according to Arnold Claveron, a provincial field officer for the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) in Bicol.

But, according to Claveron, so much is squandered because the area is also running out of ice. A nice tamban used to cost between P800 and P2,000 per bathtub. When the fish is overflowing, however, the price reduces to merely P200.

But according to the report, the sales of others are only at almost twenty pesos (P20) and they have not been sold yet due to oversupply. It is said that no one buys it in the markets today because people are fed up with such fish.
