Sixers Banned NBA Fan After Throwing Popcorn at Russell Westbrook

The 76ers management banned an NBA fan after he deliberately throws popcorn at Washington Wizard player Russell Westbrook during the game.

After having his season ticket canceled for throwing popcorn on Westbrook, a Philadelphia 76ers fan is now forbidden from attending games at Wells Fargo Center. The Washington Wizard star left the court after injuring his right ankle when he was dumped with popcorn.

As a result, Westbrook was enraged, as were the other players. Following the incident, security personnel had to keep an enraged Westbrook from confronting the fan.

“To be completely honest, this s— is getting out of hand, especially for me. The amount of disrespect, the amount of fans just doing whatever the f— they want to do — it’s just out of pocket,” Westbrook said.

Security evacuated the fan a few time later. According to a statement released by the Sixers on Thursday, the fan had been identified and was no longer permitted to attend games.

“He will be banned from all events at Wells Fargo Center indefinitely. We apologize to Russell Westbrook and the Washington Wizards for being subjected to this type of unacceptable and disrespectful behavior. There is no place for it in our sport or arena,” the team said.

Following the event, the NBA declared in a statement on Thursday that it would enact a “enhanced fan code of behavior.” The NBA promised a crackdown as the New York Knicks revealed that a fan who spat on Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young during a playoff game at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday had been banned.
