This is the story behind the photo where Rabiya Mateo and Miss Thailand were captured hugging each other after the pageant.
RABIYA MATEO – Miss Universe 2020 candidates Philippines Rabiya Mateo and Thailand’s Amanda Obdam were seen hugging and this is the story.
Among the strongest candidates during the Miss Universe 2020 pageant are Rabiya Mateo and Amanda Obdam of Philippines and Thailand, respectively. They did well in the pageant and being the crowd’s favorite added to the pressure they were feeling during the competition aside from the one they have representing their respective countries.
Rabiya ended her journey joining the Top 21 list while Amanda has gotten as far as in the pageant’s Top 10. Many people have already expected that they’d be among the top 5 finalists but it didn’t happen. Andrea Meza of Mexico won the competition followed by the following runners-up:
1st runner-up: Miss Brazil – Julia Gama
2nd runner-up: Miss Peru – Janick Maceta del Castillo
3rd runner-up: Miss India – Adline Castelino
4th runner-up: Miss Dominican Republic – Kimberly Jimenez
And now, with the Philippines and Thailand being seen hugging each other after the winner has been announced, Rabiya shared the real story behind it. Accordingly, what related them to each other is feeling the same weight of pressure being the pageant.
Rabiya said during the IG live of U.S.-based Filipino businesswoman Olivia Quido-Co , “Maybe because kami yung dalawang candidate na na-pressure talaga coming from pageant-loving countries. Alam niya [Amanda], alam ko din kung how hard it is to please everybody around you, to please the fans.”
She also revealed that when she was not called in the Top 10, she prayed and rooted for Thailand and India who are her fellow Asians. She added, “And then, nung hindi din siya natawag sa Top 5, ramdam mo din kasi yung bigat. And when I saw her, I just hugged her and we hugged each other. You saw the video, guys.”
