Student Pilot Dies After Small Plane Driven Crash in La Union Waters

A 25-year-old student pilot was killed when the small plane he was flying crashed into the ocean in Bauang, La Union on Wednesday.

The victim was from the First Aviation Academy at Subic Bay International Airport, according to a statement from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Operations and Rescue Coordination Center. It’s thought to be on a solo cross-country flight.

The plane numbered RP-C8230 departed from Iba Airport in Zambales, traveled to La Union Airport, and then to Lingayen Airport before returning to Iba Airport, according to the school’s flight plan.

The plane, however, crashed in the waters off Caba, La Union, at roughly 11:30 a.m. today, May 26th, 2021. Police retrieved the body of a 25-year-old student pilot from Paligui, Apalit, Pampanga, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

The victim was transported to the Caba Municipal Health Office, where he was pronounced dead. At the Mapanao Funeral Service at Aringay, La Union, he was laid to rest.

Near the seashore, some bits of the plane were captured. According to the CAAP, investigators from the Aircraft Accident Investigation and Inquiry Board had already gone to the crash site to determine the cause.

The Philippine National Police is working with the Aviation Security Group’s Police Staff Sergeant Leo Montemayor to further examine the aircraft involved in the marine incident, according to PCG.
