Farmer Caught Attempting to Smuggle Illegal Logs in Isabela Arrested

Police authorities arrested a farmer who was accused of attempted smuggling of illegal logs in Burgos, Naguilian, Isabela province.

When law enforcement officers discovered a farmer trying to smuggle sawn or illegally cut timber into this province, he was apprehended. Orlando Solito, 44, a farmer and a resident of the town, was named as the suspect.

In a report submitted to PCol. James Melad Cipriano, Provincial Director of the Isabela Police Provincial Office or IPPO, PMaj. Merwin Villanueva, chief of the Naguillan Police Station, stated that a complaint from a concerned citizen prompted his team to immediately initiate the anti-illegal logging operation.

His operatives, along with the Provincial Intelligence Unit of IPPO’s Intelligence Operatives, discovered the perpetrator transporting gmelina lumber using cricket. Sixteen pieces of sawn lumber with a total length of more than 100 board feet were seized without the accompanying papers.

According to the suspect, such gmelina lumber can only be used in his home. The police warned anyone who planned to cut down the tree that they would not hurt Mother Nature’s exploiter. According to the police, if you cut down a tree, you must obtain the appropriate document from the DENR office.
