PNP to Deploy More Police at Quarantine Facilities Over Reports of Escaping OFWs

More Police to Be Deploy at Quarantine Facilities Due to OFWs Escape Reports

The Philippine National Police (PNP) are urged to deploy more police officers to watch at quarantine facilities due to reports of escaping attempts.

Additional police officers will be sent to hotel quarantine facilities in Metro Manila, according to the Philippine National Police. This is because quarantined guards have complained that some overseas Filipino employees (OFWs) are fleeing even though their quarantine time has not yet ended.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) demanded additional police force to guard the hotels where returning OFWs are held, according to Lt. Gen. Israel Dickson, PNP deputy chief for operations and concurrent commander of Joint Task Force COVID Shield.

There are also breaches of minimum public safety and health safety, he said. In addition to the quarantine breaches, it has been confirmed that some of the repratriated OFWs are attempting to flee the facility.

“The PCG requested for additional augmentation because they are having difficulty securing and supervising various hotels where the returning OFWs are housed. Based on their report, there are also violations of minimum public safety health safety. Some of them are even escaping,” said PNP deputy Chief.

“So we really need more personnel there to guard them,” he added.

Returning OFWs must be taken directly from the airport to the hotel quarantine facilities to be quarantined, according to government regulations. They will have to wait five to seven days for the swab test and will only be allowed to leave if the COVID test is negative.
