MMDA Reimplements Truck Ban in Metro Manila
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) would reimpose the truck ban in Metro Manila starting on Monday (May 17).
On Monday (May 17, 2021), MMDA chairman Benhur Abalos said that the agency would reimplement the truck ban in Metro Manila. Trucks that contains perishables and agriculture products are exempted from the measure.
MMDA would implement the ban from Monday to Saturday (6:00 am – 10:00 am and 5:00 pm – 10:00 pm). The agency is also studying if they could allow trucks to travel and operate every Saturday.
“Ito’y pinagaraalan naman. Kung makkita nating medyo maluwang, wala naman pong problema,” Abalos.
The department has decided to reimplement the truck ban policy in compliance with the general community quarantine ruling in the National Capital Region. However, Magallanes Interchange in Makati City to North Avenue in Quezon City would impose a total truck ban 24/7.
Abalos explained that the ban is for the convenience of everyone as they aim to control the massive traffic congestion. Meanwhile, two traffic enforcers have been also caught on act of extortion.
