Several netizens asked why she did not wear the headpiece to complete her look. The said headpiece was even tagged “the missing piece” that was brought to the competition venue by Miss Universe Philippines national director Shamcey Supsup.

However, when Rabiya Mateo showcased her Philippine flag-inspired national costume, she was not wearing any headpiece. Talking to PEP, Manny Halasan admitted that he and his family were shocked upon seeing that the Pinay beauty queen did not wear his creation.

“Nung live kanina, nagulat ako nang makita ko sa monitor. Shocked ako at ang family ko. Walang update since it flew to the US. Wala na akong idea and ang daming interviews asking for the ‘missing piece’ since it was announced na ako ang gagawa at may gagawin ako for the National Costume competition,” the jewelry maker shared.

Manny just accepted this by saying that it is not the time for his creation to showcased on the Miss Universe stage. He also encouraged pageant fans to just focus now on Rabiya and thanked those who sent him messages of sympathy.

Despite the fact that his creation was not showcased in the pageant, the jewelry maker still feels honored to be given the chance to create a piece that was intended for the Miss Universe stage.

In his Facebook post, the designer of Rabiya Mateo’s headpiece shared how it was intricately done. “It is not just looking at the beauty of the creation onstage but beyond what the eyes can see. Each part symbolic of the deep culture and history embellished in it. Carved by the blood of heroes and enriched by our own history and heritage. It is not just colors and symbols… it is Filipino,” Manny said.
