This is the reaction of Catriona Gray to Rabiya Mateo’s gown for the Miss Universe prelims
Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray shared her reaction to the gown of Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo for the preliminary competition.
After the stunning yellow swimsuit, Rabiya showcased a bright yellow gown created by Dubai-based Pinoy designer Furne Amato. The globally-known fashion designer said in his post that the color yellow symbolizes “joy and celebration”.
Several Pinoy pageant fans expressed admiration for the performance of the delegate of the Philippines for the 69th edition of Miss Universe. The preliminary competition will determine who among the contestants will enter the semi-final round.
Pageant enthusiasts also have the ability to vote for their favorite contestants in order for them to step up to the next level of the competition. This is aside from the choices of the panel of all-female judges.
After Rabiya Mateo’s appearance onstage showcasing her yellow gown, Catriona Gray shared her reaction through her Twitter post. “Our girl literally said, ‘no sun in my natcos? I am the sun,'” the fourth Filipina Miss Universe tweeted. She included the hashtag “Ariba Rabiya” that has been trending in the Philippines since May 14.
To recall, many netizens commented that the national costume of Rabiya was lacking, it is because she did not wear her headpiece that was supposed to symbolize the sun in the Philippine flag. Several netizens agreed with what Catriona said and it has now received more than 71 thousand likes, as of this writing.
Catriona also excluded her fellow Pinay beauty queen from her Top 6 candidates for the national costume competition which received intriguing comments from pageant fans. However, the Miss Universe 2018 pointed out that her choice was based on the costume itself and not on a candidate’s performance.
Miss Universe Philippines national director Shamcey Supsup explained why Rabiya Mateo did not wear the headpiece and it is because it tends to fall when she walks.
