President Duterte “Jet Ski Promise” Joke, Sen. Lacson Reacts

Here’s what Senator Panfilo Lacson said about the clarification of President Duterte over his “jet ski” promise before.

PRESIDENT DUTERTE – Senator Panfilo Lacson reacted to the explanation of President Duterte about his campaign remark before.

Way back in 2016, during the election campaign and amid the tension in the West Philippine Sea, President Rodrigo Duterte vowed to defend the waters and also dropped a promise to ride a jet ski going there just to claim what is rightfully ours. And just recently, just when people recalled this promise of him, he revealed that such remark he made in the past is just a “bravado”.

It was accordingly just a joke and he even called the people who believed it as “stu*ids”. He added, “Nagyabang ako na pupunta ako sa Spratly, magdala ako ng flag na sakay ako ng jet ski.”

He even stated in 2016 that he had always wanted to be a hero and if China kills him, he jested before, “Bahala na kayo umiyak dito sa Pilipinas.”

For the past months, there have been several Chinese vessels in the disputed waters as Beijing chose to disobey an arbitral ruling which dumped their historical claims about it. Duterte even blamed the previous administration of Benigno Aquino III for what has happened.

And now, with his campaign remark back then which he currently admitted as just a campaign joke just recently, Sen. Panfilo Lacson reacted on Tuesday and expressed that he sees a problem in discerning whether or not the president is joking in his address.

“We may have a big problem here because we don’t know at what point he was joking, at what point he was serious. We don’t know anymore when he is joking, when he was not,” he said to ANC’s Headstart as per ABS-CBN report. Uncertain to when he could say that Duterte is joking or not, he pointed out that time when he actually ordered a secondhand jet ski after he made the remark.

The senator added, “At what point was he joking? At what point was he serious? We don’t know anymore, so we have a big problem in our hands.”
