Scammer Woman Swindling, Stealing from OFW Victims Arrested in Ermita

A 50-year-old scammer woman suspected of theft and swindling to her overseas Filipinos workers (OFW) victims was arrested in Ermita, Manila.

After the perpetrator, a resident of Dasmarinas City, Cavite, allegedly stole his bag containing a cellphone, wallet, and wedding ring, an OFW applicant sought assistance from Ermita Police. The two met on Wednesday and also shared a meal at a UN Avenue diner.

The victim was seen holding his red bag while paying, while the perpetrator was carrying his black bag. However, as the perpetrator exited the restaurant, he was also holding his companion’s purse.

When the perpetrator was seen again at a medical clinic in the area during the Bocobo PCP’s follow-up operation, he was arrested. The suspect’s strategy, according to Ermita police commander Police Lt. Col. Evangeline Cayaban, is to pose as an applicant in order to win the victim’s heart.

The inquiry also revealed that the perpetrator was already doing this in 2007 and that he had been in and out of prison. Nothing was returned to the victim’s possessions, and his bank reported that his P50,000 had been withdrawn as well.

The perpetrator, on the other hand, denies taking the money out of the bank. He’ll be charged with robbery, and the police are urging the victims to come forward. Authorities have also warned the public not to take trust for granted in order to avoid becoming a victim of a thief.
