Rabiya Mateo borrowed Pia Wurtzbach’s lucky earrings
Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo revealed the story of how she borrowed the lucky earrings of Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach.
Rabiya is representing the country for the 69th edition of the most prestigious pageant in the whole world. Before she went to Florida where the competition will be held on May 16, the beauty queen from Iloilo City has been sharing details of her preparations.
Previously, she has showcased her walk that earned the moniker “hala bira walk” from pageant fans. Aside from the physical training that she did to prepare, Rabiya also shared that she brought with her a “lucky charm” from her fellow Pinay beauty queen.
Rabiya Mateo revealed in an interview with GMA that she borrowed the earrings of Pia Wurtzbach that she wore when she competed in Miss Universe.
“This is a funny story kasi parang may hula na sabi na if you really want to win, dapat manghingi o manghiram ka ng gamit from the former Miss Universe winners,” the Ilongga beauty queen shared.
Rabiya added that she disregarded the feeling of “hiya” and sent a message to Pia asking her she can let her borrow something from her.
“I mean there’s nothing wrong about it. I just want to make sure na at least wala akong pinalagpas na pagkakataon and Ms. Pia is so kind, pinahiram niya sa akin ‘yong earrings na ginamit niya during [the] Miss Universe [pageant in 2015]. So iyon ‘yung parang agimat na dala-dala ko ngayon,” Rabiya shared.
She added that her family is also a major factor in why she is doing her best in the pageant. Rabiya Mateo said that her mother would always remind her to be humble and no matter what the result of the pageant is, she should keep in mind that Filipinos are proud of her.
