Duterte Plea To China To “Kindly Allow” Filipino Fishermen To Fish
DUTERTE PLEA TO CHINA – During his public address, President Rodrigo Duterte danced around the issues surrounding the West Philippine Sea.
When it comes to talks about China, the admin has always danced around gracefully with their words. Furthermore, when it comes to the territorial debate, President Duterte himself never had a firm stance stating our country’s claims of the West PH Sea.
Since 2016, President Duterte promised that he’d go to the Chinese Occupied islands of the West PH Sea on a Jet Ski with the Philippine Flag. But, five years later, the issue persists with China becoming more aggressive with their claims.
Now, instead of firmly stating our claim, Duterte pleaded to China to “kindly just allow our fishermen to fish in peace“. In his most recent public address, Duterte said:
I told China, I know that it’s yours, according to you, I’ve heard that several times. But you must also have heard of the fact that people are hungry, ang Pilipino ay gutom and you are not oblivious to that fact so kindly just allow our fishermen to fish in peace
Moreover, Duterte emphasized that since there’s no trouble, the Philippines and China can talk immediately to solve the problem. Meanwhile, instead of taking action against China’s creeping encroachment, Duterte took jabs at critics of China.
China remains to be our benefactor and just because… if I may just add something to the narrative… just because we have a conflict with China does not mean to say that we have to be rude and disrespectful
Recently, China told the Philippines to respect their claim of the West Philippine Sea. Since then, the country has been careful about their words in regard to that issue.
