Duterte Emphasize China Is A Good Friend, Especially In A War
CHINA IS A GOOD FRIEND – As far as friendships go, China is at the top of the Philippines’ list according to this administration.
Despite growing tensions surrounding the West Philippine Sea, the current admin never fails to emphasize its friendship with China. For the longest time, Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque has called China Philippines’ BFF.
Furthermore, President Rodrigo Duterte recently affirmed that the country would never go to war with “a good friend”. “So China, let it be known, is a good friend. We do not want trouble with them especially a war”, the President said.
Meanwhile, when talking about the West Philippine Sea, Duterte simply said that there are things that he cannot give up. “I hope they will understand, but I have the interest of my country also to protect. It might not really be an armed might, but it is really a claim of sovereignty”, he stated.
However, Duterte stressed that he cannot impose this sovereignty “yet”. Instead of an assuring answer or clear claim, he stated that the Philippines had already “done its legal part” and that he doesn’t “know what will happen next”.
Additionally, Duterte also commented on the statements of former Supreme Court Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio on the admin’s stance on the West PH Sea debate. Recently, Carpio said that Malacañang was a “headless chicken” when it came to the territorial dispute with China.
As a response, the President said:
“Kung bright kayo, bakit nawala ang West Philippine Sea sa atin? Panahon niyo yon eh. Panahon ninyo na talagang nandiyan kayo sa puwesto”.
