Nurse in Bicol Slams P56 Special Risk Allowance, Delayed Salary from DOH

Nurse in Bicol Slams DOH Over P56 Special Risk Allowance and Ungiven Pay

A disappointed nurse in Bicol slams the Department of Health (DOH) due to a small special risk allowance and her delayed salary.

Doctors and nurses, in particular, are critical frontline workers in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19). In return for fighting the terrible epidemic, the national government prioritized hospital staff and provided them with special treatment.

Since they were exposed to COVID-19, the national government has provided them with additional compensation in addition to their income, known as the “special risk allowance.” However, some hospital employees are dissatisfied with the way their salary is budgeted and calculated.

On Facebook, a Bicolano nurse criticizes the Department of Health (DOH) for the stipend he got for his dangerous work. The nurse pleaded to remain anonymous in order to avoid being overheated.

He told News5 that he received the P56.82 SRA while still working at a hospital in a Bicol state. He moved to a hospital in the same area after his contract expired. Apart from the low pay from SRA, he is now concerned about the fact that he has not earned a paycheck since March 1. He explained, “I think that’s how it is in the Philippines.”

Meanwhile, Mark Raven Dominguez, a Pinoy nurse, has expressed dissatisfaction after receiving only P681 SRA for three months. Dominguez has posted a photo of his Department of Health Special Risk Allowance (SRA). From September 16 to December 19, 2020, he got P681.62 in special risk allowance.

Dominguez is fighting for fairness in the allocation of special risk allowance across agencies. He also requested that the health department should review the guidelines for SRA delivery, citing an increase.
