Here is what the friends of Ana Patricia Non revealed about her
Who is Ana Patricia Non, the initiator of the Maginhawa community pantry who went controversial after the red-tagging issue, according to her longtime friends?
Non caught the attention of the online community because of her effort to extend help to her community through a bamboo cart that she filled with grocery items and fresh produce. This came with a sign saying “Magbigay ayon sa kakayahan, kumuha batay sa pangangailangan” that somehow became an encouragement to others to do the same and so the ripple effect has reached different corners of the country.
However, a week after Non started this charitable endeavor, she announced through her social media post that the community pantry will take a halt after Quezon City Police District (QCPD) and the National Task Force Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) posted that community pantries are being linked to communist groups.
For the friends of Ana Patricia Non, this kind of activity that she exhibit amid the pandemic is not a new thing. Talking to ANCX, peers of the Maginhawa community pantry revealed her personality that the public does not know.
Michael “Selo” Joselo, a friend of Non, who is fondly called Patreng by her friends, said that in college, she would always initiate fundraising projects. Joselo also shared that this is not the first time that Non started a project amid the pandemic.
The 26-year-old University of the Philippines alumna conducted a “bigas drive” July of last year and recipients of this project were the jeepney drivers who lost their livelihood due to the lockdowns. “Hindi sya mag-isa, meron syang mga ibang kasama. Pero isa sya sa mga nagko-convene,” Non’s friend said.
“I’m not surprised that she mounted [the Maginhawa Pantry] project because natural talaga sa kanya na maghanap ng way how she could be of help to other people,” Beata Carolino, another friend of Patreng shared.
This is also what Mike, not his real name, also a friend of Non in UP’s University Student Council (USC) said. He said that she is really good-natured and willing to go out of her way just to help other people.
Joselo added that the point of Patreng’s initiative to help the people. For Ben Opinion, a friend of Patreng since 2012, said that it is easy for her to get along with anybody and knows how to adjust. “Kahit hindi kayo magkapareho ng mga pananaw sa mga bagay-bagay. Hindi ka makakaramdam na hindi ka belong,” he added.
The friends of Ana Patricia Non also attested that she is a caring friend. They can also say that she is not the type who easily gives up a fight. Behind the sweetness of her facial features is a brave heart ready to fight for what she believes and things that matter to her.
