Shootout in an Anti-Illegal Drugs Operation in Cotabato Killed Cop, Drug Suspect

Anti-illegal drug operation in Cotabato turned into a shootout that killed two individuals including a cop and a drug suspect.

A police officer and a drug suspect were killed in this province this morning when they reportedly fought back after the latter was served with an arrest warrant. Patrolman Immanuel David Padronia Vales, a member of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion, was shot and killed (PNP-RMFB-12).

Pilong Salangan, a drug suspect facing charges of illegal drugs, was also shot dead, while his accomplice alias Mocad, a resident of Sitio Maracabak Barangay Guiling Alamada Cotabato, was wounded.

Vales co-police Patrolman Mario Bellisario Rapusas and PSSG James Byron Lagarto, assigned to the Alamada Municipal Police Station (MPS), were also wounded. The squad of RMFB-12, PDEA-12, and 34th Infantry Battalion Philippine Army went to Salangan’s house in the area to serve the warrant of arrest, according to Alamada Chief of Police Major Sunny Leoncito.

However, when the government troops arrived in the town, they were met with gunfire, prompting the police to retaliate which lasted several minutes. When police arrived at the suspect’s home, they discovered Salangan with gunshot wounds.

While Mocad, on the other hand, was hiding inside attempted to stab Lagarto and tries to snatch the gun.  The operatives acted instantly, handcuffing Mocad while transporting the injured to the hospital, but Vales and Salangan were pronounced dead as well.

Rapusas is now being monitored in the hospital due to bullet wounds on his body. The police and military are still on the lookout for the criminals who managed to flee the operation.
