Nike’s Partnership with Kobe Bryant Not Renewed, Vanessa Releases Statement
KOBE BRYANT – The widow of the basketball legend, Vanessa Bryant, issued a statement on the non-renewal of her husband’s deal with Nike.
One of the events in 2020 that broke the hearts of many people was the death of Kobe Bryant. Together with his daughter, Gigi, the basketball legend died in a helicopter crash as they were on their way to Calabasas, California. Supposedly, they were off to a basketball event.
The death of Kobe and Gigi undeniably sparked international mourning. The basketball legend is survived by his wife, Vanessa, and their three (3) daughters – Natalia Diamante, Capri Kobe, and Bianka Bella.
Kobe raised the flag of Los Angeles Lakers for 20 years in the National Basketball Association. He is one of the richest cagers in the history and he has several partnerships with international brands including Nike.
A lot of people admire Kobe and his Mamba-mentality, a very optimistic man who thrives to be better always. Avid fans and supporters of the basketball legend can’t get enough of stuff with his name and logo on.
However, the partnership of Kobe Bryant with Nike has recently expired and the Kobe Bryant estate decided not to renew it. Based on an article on ABC, the legendary basketball player’s widow, Vanessa, said that the contract expired last April 13, 2021.
Talking to ESPN, Vanessa expressed that her late husband and Nike “have made some of the most beautiful shoes of all time”. She also cited that a lot of basketball players in NBA wear the signature shoes of her husband than other pairs of shoes.
Based on the article, the wife of Kobe Bryant stressed that the products of her husband sell out in seconds and it means “everything” and she really hopes that fans will have her late husband’s products. Sources claim that she and the estate are disappointed over the limited produce of Nike.
Vanessa said that she’s hoping for a “lifelong partnership with Nike” that is reflective of the legacy of her husband. On its part, Nike cited that Kobe’s an important part of the brand’s connection with its consumers and he will always be loved.
“Though our contractual relationship has ended, he remains a deeply loved member of the Nike family,” Nike said.
