Four people were detained in connection with the confiscated 200 tons of taklobo. The incident, according to PCG District Palawan Commander Commodore Genito Basilio, is the province’s largest hauled giant clamshell to date.

Rey Cuyos, 54, Rodolfo Rabesa, 48, Julius Molejoa, 47, and Erwin Miagao, 40, were arrested for violating Republic Act No. 9147, also known as the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act. They were taken to the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD) for an investigation and the filing of a lawsuit.

Joint law enforcement operations have been successfully conducted by Coast Guard Intelligence Group Palawan, Coast Guard District Palawan, PCSD, PNP – Maritime Group Palawan, AFP Intelligence Operatives, and Bantay Dagat Roxas.

Meanwhile, PCG has also seized a total of 324 pieces of giant clam shells that weighed 80 tons with an estimated value of P160 million at Barangay VI, Johnson Island, Roxas, Palawan on 03 March 2021. The government then reminded in their post the harvesting endangered giant clams locally known as “taklobo” is prohibited under the Republic Act No, 10654 or the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998.
