Duterte Warns “Marami Pa Mamamatay Dito” As PH Lacks Vaccines
MARAMI PA MAMAMATAY DITO – President Rodrigo Duterte warned the Filipino public that more deaths are expected due to COVID-19.
Currently, the Philippines has over 900 thousand confirmed COVID-19 infections. Of that number, 15,594 have succumbed to the deadly virus.
Earlier this year, the Philippines finally got vaccines against COVID-19. However, Duterte said the vaccines available in the country are “Barely Enough” to vaccinate health workers.
During his public speech yesterday, the President said that vaccines are currently unavailable as there’s no “sufficient supply to inoculate the world”. As such, the President warned that there would be more deaths to come as the country lacked vaccines against the coronavirus.
“Matagal pa ito. Sabihin ko sa iyo marami pang mamamatay dito. Hindi ko lang maturo kung sino“. Duterte said. Meanwhile, when it comes to an estimated time of arrival for more COVID-19 vaccines, Duterte said that “nobody knows”.
The government’s current plan is to inoculate 70 million Filipinos this year. With this number, the Philippines could have “herd immunity” against COVID-19. But, the country is far from achieving this goal. According to an article from ABS-CBN, the country had only administered 1.2 million doses of the vaccines.
Furthermore, OCTA research group and other medical communities likewise warned of more deaths and infections as COVID-19 continues to surge in Metro Manila and nearby provinces. Because of this, the government decided to place these provinces under the new NCR Plus bubble.
Afterward, the government imposed an enhanced community quarantine which has now been reduced to a modified enhanced community quarantine until the end of the month.
