Who is the kakanin vendor in this viral vlog of Ivana Alawi?
Actress-vlogger Ivana Alawi shared a vlog last March in which she featured her pulubi prank and this went viral because of her emotional moment with a kakanin vendor.
In the vlog, that has almost 20 million views, as of this writing, Ivana pretended to be a beggar who asked money from random people on the streets. With this vlog, the YouTube star found out that there are still a lot of people who are willing to help their fellow men.
Particularly, the moment that Ivana had a kakanin vendor was priceless. Joselito Martinez was the man selling puto at kutsinta in the viral video of Ivana. He gave P20 to the actress and even offered her to eat kutsinta. The 58-year-old vendor also offered to buy softdrink for Ivana and reminded her to be careful in roaming around as she is a woman.
The actress could not contain her emotion for the goodness that she witnesses. Aside from the P20,000 that Ivana gave to Tatay Joselito, she also gave her appliances.
In an interview with PEP, Tatay Joselito shared that he is from Ormoc City and he arrived in Manila during the Martial Law era. He wasn’t able to recall the year anymore. Since he did not had anywhere to go, he experienced sleeping in Luneta.
Eventually, he was able to have a job a dishwasher in small restaurants and then as a janitor at Harrison Plaza. During Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s presidency, Tatay Joselita went back to Ormoc but sadly, his parents already passed away.
He went back to Luzon when the President was Noynoy Aquino. He stayed in Dasmariñas, Cavite City as puto and kutsinta vendor. When the factory caught fire, Tatay Joselito moved to Muntinlupa and worked as ice cream vendor. Eventually, he sold kakanin again.
Talking about meeting Ivana Alawi, Tatay Joselito said that is his gesture for people who are asking help from him, especially those who are homeless. He shared that he was a stowaway also back then and so he understands their situation.
“Naglayas din ako sa amin kaya doon ako sa Cebu, kasi palaboy-laboy. Naaalala ko rin ang pinagdaanan kong gano’n. Nanghihingi rin ako. Kaya ang naisip ko, magbibigay rin. Ako kasi naranasan ko rin ganyan, e. Ang hirap ng ganyan—palabuy-laboy, nanghihingi,” he said.
He also shared that the money that Ivana gave was used to buy the things they need at home and he gave some to his neighbors. Tatay Joselito is still selling kakanin until now but he has another profession – a YouTuber.
He now has his own YouTube channel and is being managed by the person who is now his manager. With this, Tatay Joselito hopes that his account will be monetized soon as he wants to extend help to others through his YouTube channel.
