3 Men Riding a Stolen E-Bike Arrested at Quarantine Checkpoint in Manila
The three (3) men riding stolen e-bike were arrested at the checkpoint in Santa Ana, Manila with the help of barangay officials.
Officials from Barangay 762 were on the lookout for curfew breakers when they saw two men riding an e-bike. The village officers were suspicious, so they confronted the two who suddenly ran and rode a tricycle out of nowhere.
According to an ABS-CBN News article, barangay officials pursued the two men until they entered a neighboring barangay, where the suspects were apprehended. The owner of the stolen e-bike was identified as a vegetable vendor.
The e-bike was simply parked in front of their house after shopping for vegetables at Divisoria, according to Arlene Rosario. When the e-bike was discovered missing, she said that he did not expect it to be returned, and that he was devastated, particularly because they had been paying for the e-bike for ten months.
The bike they use for their livelihood is also worth P75,000. The suspects admitted that they had been drinking and that they were just having fun getting the e-bike. They are both foreigners in the area and residents of Tondo.
According to barangay chairman Jeff Fabian, there have been incidents of theft of e-bikes and e-bike batteries in their area so residents should keep them carefully or chained. It was discovered that the thieves used only a fork to loosen the steering wheel.
It is being investigated whether 3 of the other incidents of theft were involved, especially since an e-bike battery was found in the group’s tricycle getaway vehicle. The victim decided to file a theft case against the 3 suspects.
