However, a few days later, according to the report, he complained of difficulty in breathing, with a high fever and cough. At the hospital, his oxygen saturation in the body was already at 30 percent.

He passed away on Thursday despite the attempt of hospital staff to provide him with all medication. The police sergeant also underwent a swab test and was then confirmed positive for the coronavirus.

According to the MPD, 817 people have been affected by the disease in their ranks while 712 have recovered and four are dying, including Evangelista. As of April 9, a total of 4,598 PNP personnel already received the first dose of both the Sinovac and AstraZeneca.

“It is sad but for now the Health Service of the MPD is still investigating the cause of his death,” Francisco told the Manila Bulletin.

Meanwhile, a 64-year-old PNP civilian employee also died of complications due to COVID-19. He died on April 9, or a day after the death of a police sergeant in Manila as listed as the 42nd COVID-fatality in the PNP.
