Moira Dela Torre Shares How Her Health Condition Affected Her Life

Here are some thoughts from Moira Dela Torre as she battles PCOS.

MOIRA DELA TORRE – Award-winning singer Moira Dela Torre shares her struggles as she battles against condition polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

27-year-old Kapamilya singer Moira Dela Torre shared last year that she was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a hormonal disorder common among women of reproductive age. She shared this when asked about having a baby soon. Since then, she’s working out her life to be a mother and did change her diet to help herself having such a health condition.

And during an interview with Hannah Pangilinan’s podcast, having polycystic ovaries is a struggle. Recalling her early times as a married woman, it boiled down to her what a heathy body can do. It didn’t sink down into her the significance of taking her body until she found herself waking up next to her husband Jason Marvin and with the realization that she wanted to live longer and grow old with him.

Having PCOS has affected her daily life. She experienced so many symptoms like brain fog, psoriasis, depression, anxiety, and insomnia. She added, “There are times when I’m not eating well. I get brain fog. Like there was one time I forgot my own dog’s name. But I knew his name and I just couldn’t say it. And it was just so frustrating that it gave me so much anxiety. Like ‘what is happening?’ I just couldn’t remember.”

Aside from her daily life, her song-writing process also gets affected by her condition. There will be times she can write a song in just a matter of minutes like her hits ‘Malaya’ and ‘Saglit’ which she wrote within 10 minutes and 15 minutes, respectively. And from being productive, she reaches to write nothing at all. This part frustrated her so much because writing is her only outlet and not being able to do it stores up so much emotion and baggage within her.

As for her PCOS, all that she did is knowing to eat the right ones for her and added, “Now, I’m starting to see that if you have polycystic ovaries, there’s still not much research about it. So, you just really have to listen to your body.”
