PhilHealth Makes Clarification on COVID-19 Patients Admitted in Hospital Tents

PHILHEALTH – The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation spoke on the coverage for the COVID-19 patients in hospital tents.

Recently, a spike in the COVID-19 cases in the Philippines prompted the national government to place several areas in the country back to Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ). These areas include the whole National Capital Region (NCR) and the provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal, and Laguna.

For more than a week now, PH is recording high cases of COVID-19 daily compared to the count in the previous year. Several hospitals announced that they are near to their full capacity for coronavirus cases.

Hospital tents or the pop-up hospitals were also set up to assist the hospitals in catering the increasing COVID-19 patients. It was spearheaded by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH). Recently, there were issues that some facilities allegedly charge a Php 1,000.00 per hour rate to patients admitted in tents.

PhilHealth reacted by saying that the facilities involved in the issues will be investigated. Based on a report on ABS-CCBN News, the state-run health insurance institution also assured that the patients admitted in hospital tents are covered by the COVID-19 package.

The said PhilHealth coverage includes “RT-PCR tests, isolation in accredited community isolation units, and hospitalization for mild to critical cases of COVID-19”. The institution assured that they will issue guidelines to make sure that the patients are financially protected without compromising the care they must receive.
