Here’s how Toni Gonzaga handled mean comments before about her career move.
TONI GONZAGA – Multimedia superstar Toni Gonzaga recalls the time when she moved to ABS-CBN from GMA and most people have critical comments about it.
One of the well-loved hosts, actresses, and YouTube influencers is Toni Gonzaga. She is admired for her words of wisdom and her character as a person. She is married to director Paul Soriano and they are blessed to have a son named Seve who is one of the most-followed social media darlings of today.
As much as many people are aware, before ABS-CBN, she was in GMA as one of the hosts of Eat Bulaga, and when she decided to leave the Kapuso to be a Kapamilya, she faced a lot of doubters and criticisms. Her career move is, however, contrary to what many people has told her to be. She was told “malalaos” but in 2005, when she moved to ABS-CBN, her popularity skyrocketed.
With the negative comments she kept on hearing when she decided to transfer, even she herself also came to a point of doubting her capacity. It made her emotional to hear comments like “Malalaos na iyan. Hindi pa man sumisikat din, laos na iyan”, “ambisyosa”, and such. At that time of her transfer is also the era of premium actresses like Kristine Hermosa and Claudine Barretto and also told by doubters, “Walang mangyayari sa iyo doon. Hindi ka naman makakalevel sa ganda ng mga artista nila doon.”
She took it to her heart and vowed to exhaust her one-year initial contract before with the Kapamilya network. She shared in Star Cinema’s online show I Feel U, with guest host Boy Abunda, “When I transferred, I did the movie D’ Anothers, We Belong na album, show Wazzup Wazzup ‘tapos nakapag-ASAP ako. So lahat iyon ninamnam ko lang kasi iniisip ko talaga, one year lang ako.”
The reason for her transfer then is because she got no offer from the GMA to further hone her craft and there came the offer of ABS-CBN which she saw as an opportunity to improve her talent. Upon moving, she juggled these five shows: ASAP, MRS: Most Requested Show, ETK: Entertainment Konek, and Pinoy Big Brother in ABS-CBN, and Wazzup Wazzup in Studio 23.
