Duterte Approves “Ayuda” For 22.9 Million People Affected by ECQ

Pres. Duterte Signs Proposed “Ayuda” for Residents in ECQ Areas

DUTERTE – Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte approved the “ayuda” or assistance for 22.9 million people affected by the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ).

It’s more than a year now since the Philippines’ battle against the COVID-19 pandemic has started. This coronavirus disease has brought a lot of changes in the country – most especially the people’s way of living.

Nowadays, people are geared with face masks and face shields outdoors. Everyone is encouraged to do so as a health protocol in the fight against the spread of the disease. Several local government units (LGUs) have set sanctions for those who will be caught not abiding by the protocols.

Unlike the usual face-to-face classes in schools, students now are receiving lessons through modules and online classes. The previous proposed pilot implementation of the face-to-face classes under a new normal was not pushed through following the detection of new strains of COVID-19.

Unfortunately, since last week, huge number of cases of COVID-19 are recorded daily. It prompted the national government and task force against the pandemic to place stricter quarantine measures in areas with high cases of the disease.

The whole National Capital Region (NCR) and four (4) provinces such as Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal, and Laguna are under an Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) now until April 4, 2021. Movements in and out of these areas are limited and the curfew was adjusted to 6:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m.

A lot of people undeniably worry about their food and essentials amid the strict community quarantine measure. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte has approved the proposed “ayuda” for some people who are greatly affected by the ECQ.

Based on the report, around 22.9 million in NCR, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, and Cavite will receive “ayuda” from the government amid the ECQ implementation. Budget Secretary Wendel Avisado expressed that unlike the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) assistance in 2020, this aid will be “in kind”.

With regards to the worth of the assistance, it will also be lower than what was given during the Bayanihan 1. In 2020, 18 million famiolies reportedly got between Php 5,000.00 to Php 8,000.00 as financial assistance amid the crisis.
