COVID-19 Positive Professor Goes Hospital-Hopping to Be Admitted

A professor who was tested positive with COVID-19 goes hospital-hopping after being denied from many hospitals she went through.

Despite the burning fever and barely unable to stand, the professor identified as Vanessa Villanueva went to different hospitals for medical treatment. However, hospital staff denied her as the facility is already filled to the brim.

According to Villanueva, she sought treatment in a hospital on March 12 after she suffered from a 38°C fever and sore throat. Villanueva first went to the University of Santo Tomas hospital in Manila, where she could use her medical benefit as a school employee.

However, the hospital management told her that they were already in capacity and advised her to go elsewhere. Villanueva next went to the Capitol Medical Center in Quezon City.

There, she was also unable to be treated as the hospital was lack in vacancy for COVID-19 patients, which posted on the hospital doors. Due to the number of patients, coming nurses were also torn on who to prioritize.

Villanueva then proceeded to Fe Del Mundo Hospital, but there were also no vacancies. Although she was first asked to sit outside, she was given first aid in the emergency room.

Since she was already having difficulty breathing, Villanueva had to be admitted. However, he was 18th in line. Villanueva continued to return to the hospital in Fe Del Mundo to receive treatment for pneumonia.

She said her 13-year-old son began to get sick as well. They were tested for COVID-19 by barangay authorities on March 19, a week after she experienced symptoms.

Both her and her son tested positive. They decided to undergo home quarantine while being monitored by the local government, as there was no available room where they could stay together.
