A report from ABS-CBN News states that this is in order to curb the recent surge in coronavirus infections, according to the Malacañang.

Palace spokesman Harry Roque said that the following industries will halt its operations in areas under GCQ from March 19 to April 4:

  • Driving schools
  • Traditional cinemas
  • Videos and interactive game arcades
  • Libraries
  • Archives
  • Museums
  • Cultural events
  • Limited social events
  • Limited tourist attractions, except open-air tourist attractions

The inter-agency task force only allowed the reopening of traditional cinemas, arcades and driving schools in the middle of February.

Meetings, conferences and exhibitions will be limited to essential business gatherings at 30 percent capacity of venues in GCQ areas.

Religious gatherings will also be limited to 30% venue capacity, given that there is no objection from local governments, Roque said.

Local government units are given the discretion to let religious gatherings fill up to 50% of the venue’s seating capacity, based on the conditions in their areas.

The maximum venue capacity of dine-in restaurants, cafes, personal care services will be lowered to 50%.

Based on the report, National government agencies are also advised to postpone non-critical activities that will result to mass gatherings.

Cockfighting and cockpit operations are still suspended in GCQ areas, as well as those in MGCQ or modified general community quarantine, the loosest of 4 lockdown levels.

The capital, which is home to 12 million people, will be under general community quarantine, along with 9 other areas.
