ANGEL LOCSIN – Famous actress and philantropist Angel Locsn reacts to statement of President Duterte as if belittling the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last Monday, President Rodrigo Duterte said during his speech a statement which to the understanding of many people is belittling the COVID-19 pandemic. The health problem that the world is currently facing has left millions of people in the Philippines jobless and thousands dead.
“Kaya natin ito COVID na ito. Maliit na bagay ito sa buhay natin. Marami tayong dinaanan…mas grabe, mas mahirap, mas magluluha kayo,” said the chief executive has said to uplift the people’s spirits but it has met criticisms online. On Twitter, those who are critical of the present administration made the hashtag #DutertePalpak a trending topic.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, after all the critical comments about it, clarified during a virtual press briefing that such a circumstance is just passing and that life goes on for the Philippines despite the pandemic. He added that the president just meant that this situation won’t be for forever and once the solution arrives in the form of the vaccine, we will have a new normal, and “we will heal as one”.
Philippine senators like Francis Pangilinan opposed this “maliit na bagay” remark because it has severely impacted the lives of many people. Also, Senator Risa Hontiveros stood that it is wrong to belittle the pandemic considering the miserable effects it brought. She stressed, “At kung gusto niya talaga palakasin ang loob ting Pilipino, napakaraming kailangan pang gawin, at ayusin at iwasto, isang taon na mula sa simula ng pandemya.”
And among the famous personalities who also showed objection over the remark is Angel Locsin who expressed that if it’s a little thing for him, it’s not the same case to the people. She added, “Malaking utang. Malaking taas ng cases. Malaking human rights violations.”
Aside from being an actress, Locsin is known for her charities during calamities and most especially during the height of the pandemic in the country. Also, she’s always been vocal about the poltical issues and problems of the country.
