MRT Disinfection Video Goes Viral, Caught Personnel Will Face This Sanction

After being called out, the DOTr releases an official statement following the viral MRT disinfection video that circulated online.

MRT DISINFECTION VIDEO – The Department of Transportation (DOTr) released an official statement regarding the personnel caught hastily disinfecting a train in MRT-3.

What has gone viral over the weekend is the quick “disinfection” technique of MRT-3 personnel caught in a video. Amid the pandemic and under the new normal, safety and hygiene for everyone is the topmost priority and such negligence of someone on essential matters like this caught the attention of the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

The video was taken on Friday evening at the North Avenue Station in Quezon City and it eventually went viral online. Many netizens called out the DOTr about this. The personnel were seen and recorded just hastily spraying and wiping the grab handles of the train without securing the cleanliness. This incident has made many netizens worried.

As per the official statement from the DOTr, the persons involved are now facing disciplinary action over the said “unfortunate incident” to prevent for such to happen again. It added, “The MRT-3 management will not tolerate any breach of health protocols as we stem the spread of COVID-19 while serving the daily transportation needs of commuters. We have sternly reminded members of our cleaning and disinfection staff that while there is a need to disinfect all train coaches at speed, the process of disinfection must be focused and done with care.”

They capped off their statement by assuring the readers that the safety and health of the passengers are their top concerns. Disinfection is one of the measures implemented by the MRT-3 management as they returned to operating amid the pandemic. The number of infected cases in the Philippines is now at 616,611 and last Saturday, the country recorded 5,000 new infections which is the highest so far within a day for this year.
